Video Summary
Eli argues that every person is born with a spiritual purpose that acts as the soul’s DNA, guiding them naturally toward their true path in life. To fulfill this calling, individuals must actively clear their emotional baggage and push through the uncomfortable fears triggered by their nervous systems. Ultimately, by taking courageous leaps of faith and listening to unexplainable inner urges, people can break free from unaligned expectations and embrace a deeply fulfilling existence.
The Spiritual DNA and the Body
- Eli suggests that our life purpose is encoded in our soul, much like physical DNA shapes our bodies.
- He views the physical body merely as a vehicle to navigate life’s journey, which we shed once our time is over.
Overcoming Emotional Baggage
- Unresolved emotions such as fear and shame constrict our potential and prevent us from pursuing our true calling.
- Stepping outside your comfort zone triggers the nervous system, which acts like an electric dog collar through stress chemicals, but you must move forward anyway.
- Eli recommends engaging in healing practices, such as rebirthing breathwork, to clear out the emotional baggage that keeps people stuck.
Recognizing and Supporting the Soul’s Call
- Signs of a person’s purpose appear as early as childhood, and Eli observes this in his young niece and nephew.
- Parents and mentors should nurture a child’s natural interests rather than forcing them into predetermined paths for money or familial pride.
- Eli shares his own experience of resisting his father’s pressure to work on the railroad, which ultimately saved him from a miserable life.
Taking Leaps of Faith
- Fulfilling your purpose requires risking everything and making choices that might seem entirely irrational to others.
- Eli followed unexplainable urges throughout his life, from answering a sudden call to move to Colorado at age 52, to studying shamanism across the country.
- Comparing the journey to the biblical story of Moses, Eli notes that the spiritual realm guides you when you bravely say yes to new opportunities.

Hola! Happy Labor Day! The Eli Effect Podcast is back. Today we’re going to talk about Chapter 4, Needing a Purpose. And I have some strong opinions about this, so bear with me. It’s just my experiences in that. But I truly believe we are born with a purpose. It is in our soul. Okay, it’s kind of like your body has DNA, it does what it does. Your soul has DNA, it does what it does. So think about it like your DNA formed your body, right? Well, why can’t the soul also be like DNA to form your life, your life purpose? So it’s not physical, it’s more spiritual. Can’t see it or touch it, but it’s there. I truly believe it. Your body is basically like a car taking you on a trip on your life’s journey. Okay, you need the car, right? Well, we need this body. But see, people get caught up into this and they over-identify with this body. Okay, just think of it as a car, a vehicle to get you around. And when your journey is done, the car leaves and you go back to where we came from. And I think what happens a lot of times is the body gets bogged down with emotions that are constricting us. Think of it like an artery. You know, when your arteries get constricted, you could have heart problems, blood pressure problems, all kinds of issues. Well, it makes sense that emotions constrict your emotional body and then you let that control you. You’re afraid to deal with those emotions or those emotions are literally controlling you. So if you think about your emotional baggage is weighing you down. Okay, it’s like carrying a 50 pound knapsack on your back all the time. When you shed that 50 pounds, it’s like, oh my gosh, I feel lighter. And Dr. Joe Dispenza, one of my favorite teachers, says your body controls you with chemicals, which we call feelings, right? So anxiety is cortisol and adrenaline sometimes, usually cortisol, right? So if the chemicals are zapping you, you’re going to, I’m not moving. It’s think of it, and I’ve said this before, the electric dog collar. Okay, we’ve all got one. It’s called your nervous system and your body. And so you’re going to go do something that’s out of your comfort zone and right away your body goes zap. So you feel the vibration. I ain’t moving. But the trick is, the wonderful part, and I’ve discovered this, if you don’t mind getting the zapping, you can go anywhere. You can do anything. You got to feel it, but do it anyway. In my personal story in this book, I think deeply illustrates you have to do some healing work, especially stuff from your past, to be able to answer the soul calls you get to try this, do this, learn this, et cetera, et cetera. You know, there were so many things on my journey that I learned. And as I look back at it, like the shamanism as an example, okay, all of this traveling and learning and the money I spent, I just had to learn shamanism. So I traveled all over the country with some really great teachers. And now I’m teaching myself, but I had to answer the call. And there’s other things, you know, that I’ve done and hopefully you’ve done where it didn’t make a bit of sense, but I knew I had to do it. The issue, excuse me, the issue I see with people is your unresolved feelings like fear, shame, self-doubt prevents us from answering the call to what we’re here to do. And Joseph Campbell talks about this beautifully in his book, uh, about the soul calls. Uh, the hero’s journey is what his book is about, but you get the call to go do something. Like when I moved to Colorado, I literally got a phone call from my friend Roxanne, Hey, you want to come? I got a log cabin for, to rent you. And the rest is history. But if I hadn’t done a lot of the work I had done up to that point, there was no way I was going to do that. You know, I was 52 years old. I had a practice. I had my life here in Indiana and now I’m moving to Colorado talking about crazy Meshuggah. But that’s the thing. If you do your healing work, you get, you accept your self-doubts. We’re all going to have self-doubts. We’re all going to feel some fear sometimes, but let’s not let it control us. And that’s what I see people doing too much. You know, we go in skydiving. I knew I had to do that. That’s a soul thing. Okay. I can’t explain it to people, but I waited until I was 50 to do it. And I knew I had to go and I did it four times and it felt like it was finished. The soul seeds are there early. And I say as early as six years old, I’m watching my great nephew and niece. My niece just turned seven and my nephew is going to be four next month. And I can already see what their soul is wanting to do here. They’re wanting to build things, create things, create things and all that. My niece, she’s like a little architect. She loves using Legos and building things of that. So the seeds are already there if the family can support it and see it. If we don’t get supported in our journey, fulfilling your soul life is very unlikely. And it could be anybody in your life. Parents, teachers, mentors, family members. Unfortunately, and this I hear a lot from people, our parents have goals for us that aren’t aligned with our sole purpose. They go, you got to go make money, you got to be success, you got to do this for the family, for pride, and things like that. So a lot of times the parents are shoving us into directions we shouldn’t go with. You know, my dad tried that with Tim and I when he got us a job on the railroad that he worked for and retired from. And it was a good job for him. He was a welder. He made a good living, supported his family. But when we turned 18, he tried to, you know, stick that in our face and go do it. Well, I tried it for a while and it didn’t work out. I had a wonderful experience with the boss that was verbally abusing me. And I confronted the hell out of him. And I literally knocked him on his ass. I didn’t put this in the book, but I’m telling you that. I mean, he was up my just really being mean to me and put me down. And I don’t know, you know, God gave me a temper. So I think that came in handy then. But as I look back at that, as crazy as that sounded and looked to me at the time, I can see that that stopped me from getting stuck on the railroad. I would have been miserable. I would have turned out to be like my dad, an alcoholic. Although I did become a drug addict, but that was for other reasons. So parents, watch what your kids are there to do. They’ll show you what they’re interested in. Support it. Don’t put your ideas. You got to go out for sports. You got to do this. You got to do that. You know, I watch my niece. I so admire her as a mother and with her, with her two kids. And she’s trying to support what they like to do instead of trying to fit them in her little box. She’s letting them create their own box. And a lot of times we, our parents don’t do that. So you’ll get mentors. You’re going to get teachers. You’re going to have family members, maybe not your parents talking to you. I had an uncle that was really helpful for me, uncle Kenneth, uh, to come on. You got to do this. You got to get out there. Try that. He was pushing my brother and I to go try things. My grandpa, Harry did that too, but he was gone by the time we turned eight, but he was really helpful with that. If you’re on this journey and you’re willing to answer the call, you will have opportunities and choices to make that are going to be way out of your comfort zone. And I’ve had many, you know, the big one for me so far was moving to Colorado. Although back in 2010, I seriously considered with my brother moving to Israel. Um, but then I did some shamanic journey work and I figured out that’s not where we were meant to be. And as I see what’s going on in Israel, 16 years later, I’m kind of glad I wasn’t living in that war zone, but you’re going to get choices and opportunities that are going to come your way. Just do it because you don’t know what’s behind it. You know, when I moved to Colorado, knowing one person, my friend, Roxanne, I had no idea who was going to be there. Rabbi Joe. Now that’s an extreme one. It could be a little ones. I look at life like a chessboard. We get moved around. We think we’re making the moves, but we’re really being moved around. So you have to be willing. Hopefully you don’t have to do this like I did. You have to be willing to risk everything on this journey. Sometimes move, change careers, get out of a relationship that’s not working for you, et cetera, et cetera. Do whatever you have to do. And you’re going to be free here. Now, how, how can you do that? If you’re full of emotions from your past, especially your childhood that are controlled, you’re healing you. It’s going to be almost impossible, but the more you heal and you don’t have to be on the healing journey. I’ve done a lot of things. I’m just talking like breath work, the rebirthing that I teach. I really encourage people to do that on a regular basis once they get into it, because it really clears out a lot of the stuff that’s in there. That’s holding us back. That’s keeping us stuck in Groundhog Day. Like Bill Murray. Leaps of faith are going to be required at time on this journey. I’ve taken a lot of leaps of faith, big ones, small ones, things that didn’t make sense, but I knew I had to go and try it, okay, and boom. It’s kind of like when I started doing Facebook videos about seven, eight years ago, three men came to me, a friend of mine and two of his buddies, and they said, you should start doing some videos on Facebook. I had no intention of doing that. I never thought about doing videos. You know, I love teaching and that, but I never went there, you know, at that time, but I knew that was the universe sending these three men to me, so they did most of the work, set it up in that. All I had to do is sit down, turn on the phone, and start talking like I am now, but I didn’t see that coming, but they knew something. The universe sent them, because look where I’m at now. I’m doing podcasts. Without that, I want to be doing these podcasts to flesh out and talk about the book in a deeper way. So, leaps of faith are going to be there, and you’re going to have to trust what you can’t see, touch, smell, or hear. I don’t know why, but I got to go do this. Your soul purpose is like a GPS, but it’s not tied to the third dimension, physicality. It’s tied to the spiritual realm. The spiritual realm is guiding everything for us, and this is very controversial to people, because they’re, you know, you’re attached to this third dimension. You can’t see and touch it. It isn’t real, but the spiritual realm is there supporting us, guiding us, cheering us on, but we’ve got to be willing to do our part. You’ve got to be willing to take that leap of faith. Take, make that choice. Quit that job that is killing your soul. You know, I’ve got, I had a client in Thursday, and he’s, he’s got a new profession in his 40s, but he got into it in his early 30s, because he was in a trade that his family encouraged them to get into. You’ve got to get into the union and do trade. He was miserable for 10 years doing that, but he finally woke up one day and said, I can’t do this anymore. So he risked everything, threw away a really good paying career as a union worker, and went and did this other thing, and he’s really liking it. And I’ll, you, I’ll finish with this. One of my favorite examples of this, and there’s many, but Moses is somebody that embodied this. If you don’t know the story, Moses killed the Egyptian taskmaster, because he was raping Jewish women, and there’s a lot behind why he did that, so I don’t want to go into that now. It’s tied to Cain and Abel, which is kind of trippy. So he left, he ran into the desert, lived out there, got married, had a family, etc., etc. But the universe came to him as a burning bush and said, go and free my people. Now he was terrified. His dog collar was going off, because he knew if he went back to Egypt, he would be executed. What he didn’t know is the universe had his back. And by doing it, he embodied fully his soul purpose, and what he did for the Hebrews and the Jewish people is still talked about today. But if he didn’t go back, he would never have embodied his real purpose. Okay, because he had a wild ride. You know, if you learn the story about Moses, all these things that happened, but he was, it was always being guided. So I’ll be talking more about soul purpose and that as we move forward. But I wanted to explain some of this today, what it takes, what it took me. And I can sit here and tell you at 75 years old, I’m still grateful. Some of the moves I made were a little crazy, but it all worked out. Trust what comes to you. If you get a phone call, you get an opportunity, you get an invitation. Be more like Jim Carrey, the yes man. Just say yes more. Not all the time. Don’t start with tens. Do ones and twos and threes and see where that takes you. We all have this in us. I truly believe that. All right. Enjoy your holiday and I will see you guys real soon. God bless.
